We, Saurabh and Dipti, are social activists who frequently visit schools and colleges to talk about our #PeriodCupCause. Our sessions last for over two hours and include a Q&A segment. These sessions are free, but we encourage donations to help girls and women who can’t afford menstrual cups. One menstrual cup can be reused for six to seven years, reducing dependency on disposable pads. Disposable sanitary pads take over 500 years to degrade, and one girl uses around 7,000 to 8,000 pads in her lifetime. Using menstrual cups helps both women and the environment.
Our Experience at a Mumbai College
Inviting Both Boys and Girls
Recently, we were invited to a college in Mumbai to speak to science and commerce students. The management was progressive enough to allow both boys and girls to attend our session. We were excited because it’s crucial for boys and men to understand menstruation.
Conducting Multiple Sessions
Due to the large number of students, we split the session into multiple parts. First, we addressed the science students, both boys and girls. The session went well, and everyone, including faculty members, gained valuable insights about menstrual cups.
Facing Conservatism in Society
When it was time to start the session for commerce students, a faculty member asked us to send the boys out when discussing insertion techniques for menstrual cups. We were puzzled but remained calm. We explained that we would handle the topic appropriately and assured her there was no need for concern. This incident highlighted how conservative our society still is.
The Importance of Our Work
Breaking Taboos

We realized how essential our work is because many people are not comfortable discussing menstruation openly. Teachers, guardians, and parents often avoid this topic. We feel blessed to have the opportunity to educate the youth about menstruation and menstrual cups.
Encouraging Open Discussions
Despite the challenges, we are committed to spreading awareness about menstruation. We believe that open discussions can help break the taboos surrounding this natural process. Our sessions aim to educate and empower both girls and boys, fostering a more understanding and supportive environment.
How You Can Help
Donations and Support
While our sessions are free, we rely on donations to provide menstrual cups to those who cannot afford them. Each donation helps a girl or woman switch to a more sustainable and cost-effective menstrual product. Your support can make a significant difference in their lives and help protect the environment.
Join Our Cause
We invite everyone to join our cause and support our mission. Whether through donations, spreading the word, or simply attending our sessions, every bit of help is valuable. Together, we can make a positive impact on society and the environment.
Conclusion
Our work on the #PeriodCupCause is more than just spreading awareness about menstrual cups. It’s about breaking societal taboos, encouraging open conversations, and promoting sustainable menstrual practices. We are grateful for the opportunity to educate and empower the youth. Your support and participation can help us reach more people and make a lasting change.
